SUMMER HARVEST

September 6, 2017

September is the month of transition from Summer to Fall. The bountiful harvest of late summer is upon us.  It is a beautiful time of year to enjoy local fruits and vegetables. During the past few weeks in the North East, we have had an early preview of fall!  This change in the weather reminds us to prepare for the coming season. It is time to gradually shift away from foods such as salads and raw veggies to warmer soups, dhal and veggie stews. At this time of year it is important to cleanse out the pitta, which has accumulated over the summer months.  Bitter greens of the season can be energizing and detoxifying.  Enjoy and add to your warm dhal!

In Ayurveda we recommend gradual shifts, as it is gentler on the body.  The change of season can be particularly stressful to vata, upon the onset of fall, the season of vata. An Ayurvedic cleanse, known as panchakarma can help to detox the body of toxins and imbalances to prepare the system for the fall and winter months.  Common imbalances that can arise during this transition of the seasons are constipation, joint issues and discomfort, and nervous system imbalances related to sleep and anxiety. Consider joining the Inner Source Fall Ayurvedic Cleanse Program as prevention and preparation for the body to enjoy optimal health throughout the fall and winter months.

What I love most about Ayurveda is this ancient science of life exists not just for treatment but first and foremost for prevention of imbalance and disease.

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too."
