September is the month of transition from Summer to Fall. The bountiful harvest of late summer is upon us. It is a beautiful time of year to enjoy local fruits and vegetables. During the past few weeks in the North East, we have had an early preview of fall! This change in the weather reminds us to prepare for the coming season. It is time to gradually shift away from foods such as salads and raw veggies to warmer soups, dhal and veggie stews. At this time of year it is important to cleanse out the pitta, which has accumulated over the summer months. Bitter greens of the season can be energizing and detoxifying. Enjoy and add to your warm dhal!
In Ayurveda we recommend gradual shifts, as it is gentler on the body. The change of season can be particularly stressful to vata, upon the onset of fall, the season of vata.
