Letting Go of 2017

As the end of 2017 approaches, the days are becoming shorter, and the air is cold, dry and crisp. In the seasonal areas of the world, the bulbs of spring and summer go dormant, the grass and vegetation quiets. Many birds fly South, and animals retreat to hibernate and rest. As I stare out my office window at the bare trees, I realize they have quite a lesson to teach us. Strong, rooted, and always brave to begin again in the Spring. Their life giving force provides an abundance of moisture, oxygen and fruit in the summer months. The willingness to let go, rest and shed what is no longer needed in the Fall & Winter months. They make it look so easy...This process happens effortlessly, and if we are present, we can observe its splendor right in front of our eyes each day. Nature is an amazing teacher! The flurry of activity as the holidays season unfolds brings excitement and joy. A time to enjoy family, friends and holiday celebrations. However, it can also bring about stress & anxiety with the many obligations of the season. Say yes to what feels joyfuland let go of what depletes you. If we push ourselves to excess during a time when rest is required for the body's renewal, then we become vulnerable to imbalance and illness. When we hold on to what is not healthy for us or push ourselves in the wrong direction, we go against our true nature. Visualize what a tree looks like when it is not nourished or holding onto its old, dry crunchy leaves...it gets sick, looks unhappy and may eventually die prematurely. As we approach the Winter Solstice on December 21st, I invite you to step back and observe...No one can nourish you but YOU. Pay attention, Love yourself, say yes to what only feels right and LET GO. Relinquish the practices and thoughts that no longer serve you well. May this holiday season bring you Love, Light & Joy...
